Mary O. Bowman discusses her early education and her early career as a physical education instructor and the various positions she held prior to being employed at San Jose State College in 1962. She also discusses her role as a supervisor for student teachers in Santa Clara County and her appointment as chair of women's physical education and chairperson of the Joint Department of Physical Education and Human Performance. Bowman discusses the issues that arose from having separate women and men's physical education departments and the mandate by administration to merge them.
